The purpose of the SAT (formerly Scholastic Assessment or Aptitude Test) is to assess a student’s readiness for post-high-school learning. It is a timed exam that measures reading, writing, and math skills.

Major changes were made to the test over the last few years, so the questions are more in line with what students learn in their high school curricula. Prior versions required students to study content that was not relevant to their lives, and some communities didn’t fare as well as others. That’s good news!
