The new school year is right around the corner. It’s time to start preparing yourself to get back into a regular routine of going to school and doing homework. Whether you are preparing to return to high school or college, here are some tips to help you transition back into your education.
If you have been staying up late every night and sleeping in all day, it’s time to start going to bed a little earlier and getting up before noon. If you wait until the week before school starts, you will be miserable. Start going to bed at the time you would if you were in school about 2-3 days a week and then add a day until you’re up to 5. It’s going to be easier to get up if you go to bed at a decent hour. Hopefully during the summer you’ve spent some time reading. You don’t have to do homework every day, but you should at least read a little throughout the week. Video games are a lot of fun, but back to school means less video and TV time.
Go with your parents to buy your school supplies. You know what you like and they know what you need. Don’t just give them a list of things, because they may not buy your favorite color binder or the types of pencils or pens you like. Don’t wait until the last minute. Not having supplies doesn’t mean school won’t start. It just means school will start and you will be unprepared.
As part of your preparation, you need to develop a plan for a successful school year. What goals do you want to accomplish? What are some things you need to do in advance to make it through the school year? If your previous school year wasn’t the best, what can you do to make this one better? Have a positive attitude about everything you are going to experience during the new school year. You never know, this could be the best school year yet!
