Avoiding Acne During the Hot Summer Months

By Evetta McGriff
Acne is caused when your pores get clogged with dead skin cells. During the summer it seems like acne picks up more than the other seasons, especially for those who have oily skin. If you work outside or exercise, this could make it even worse. The heat, combined with the humidity, increase the production of oil in the skin, which means more breakouts for those who suffer from acne. Wearing athletic gear like helmets can trap in moisture. Be sure to shower and clean your face as soon as you can. Try to avoid foods during the summer months that actually contribute to having acne. Foods high in sugar and starch can cause acne flare ups. Foods such as barbeque, fried food, sugary soda, and ice cream all have the possibility of causing acne.

To help reduce acne, you have to take care of your skin. Be sure to clean your hands before touching your face. There is dirt and oil on your hands and you will transfer it to your face, which can cause the face to break out. Use exfoliating cleansers to remove some of the toxins and impurities in your pores. Use moisturizer on your face, and reduce the amount of makeup you apply during those hot days. If you’re going to be in the water, don’t wear makeup to try to cover up the imperfections on your skin.

When you are going to be outside, make sure to wear oil-free sun screen. It doesn’t matter what type of skin tone or complexion you have, everyone should wear sunscreen to protect their skin from harmful ultraviolet rays. If you have acne medication that you use, be sure to use it regularly. If you have sheets to blot oil from your skin, have some available to remove some of the excess oil. Using these tips can help you to avoid acne during the hot summer months.
