Wrapping Up the School Year

It’s hard to believe the school year is over in a few short months. By now, you should have turned on the after-burners and kicked it into high gear! If you played around over the past few months, then you need to focus, focus, focus! This message isn’t just for graduating seniors. All students should be determined to make the final months of the school year a success.     Peer pressure is hard sometimes to get past. Don’t let so-called friends mess things up for you. You know what you need to do. In the words of Nike, “Just do it.” It’s hard sometimes to focus and study, but it’s important and necessary. When you get to college, professors won’t hold your hand and remind you to study. It’s up to you to develop good habits now.

Here are some tips to help with finishing the year strong. 1) Don’t wait until the last minute to complete an assignment. Things come up, computers crash, etc. You don’t want to stay up all night to finish something that could have been completed the week before. 2) Speaking of computers crashing, you should save your work continuously! You never know when some bizarre power surge causes the lights to go out. 3) Invest in a USB flash drive AND a case to keep it in. They come in all shapes,  sizes, and colors and they are always on sale. Spend $5-$10 on a drive and your work is always with you. 4) Studying is important too. There will be those who don’t think you need to study. I wouldn’t listen to them; they might be in the same grade next year because they didn’t think studying was necessary.

There is a song that a local radio station used to play, called the “I Love School” song. Not everyone loves school, but it is a necessity. Everyone won’t go to college and be on the Dean’s List every semester, but don’t you want the opportunity to try? Education never hurt anyone, but NOT having an education may hurt future success. There are many things that you can lose, but no one can ever take your education from you.
